The Dawn of Armageddon
As the world is hurdling toward the final climax of mankind one has to wonder will anything survive. Will just a score of humans remain on a desolate planet, or will all living things be obliterated in a blink of an eye? Even though there is a real possibility that a large enough meteor could strike the planet and wipe out all life forms there is a much more possibility that mankind will cause the ultimate destruction on earth.
Ever since the dawn of man countless cultures around the globe have heard prophecies and tales foretelling a time when an epic final battle between the forces of darkness and light would destroy the planet. Where the victorious forces would be given the ultimate power to rule all. Like that opening from The Lord Of the Rings, “One ring to rule them all.” To understand the consequences of a cataclysmic event where the forces of good battle the forces of evil we have to realize that mankind is blessed and cursed where the inner struggles of light and dark are constant struggles within every human being.
Today, in the third millennium mankind has been blessed with technological, scientific and medical marvels that have transformed the human existence to levels never before realized in human history. And, yet humanity has been cursed by the dark side of humanity. For all the good that man has wrought into the world much of which is overshadowed by the unquenchable thirst for power, control and wealth by those who fail to bring the light of goodness and virtue to rule out the dark side of their consciousness.
When we are born we inherent many of the traits of our parents. It is through education and the environment that we learn how to live. Whether we choose to succumb to selfish desires where greed and hate, overwhelms our consciousness or rise above the many ills of society and choose what is good and virtuous is all predicated on our innate ability to choose what is right or wrong. Today, it is as though greed and hate has overtaken much of the worlds societies. Greed, violence and carnage with the brutality and savage reprisals against man and nature has swept through every corner of the globe. It is no wonder then that man has reached the point of the dawn of Armageddon.
When many of us read or hear stories of how Armageddon would occur we have to retrace Biblical Scriptures to it’s origin to gain the true significance of all those prophecies that have foretold of how mankind would succumb to a violent and tragic end. The word Armageddon comes from a Hebrew term that means “Mountain of Megiddo.” Megiddo was a city in ancient Israel. Megiddo and nearby Jezreel Valley were the sites of many battles in ancient times. It was by the waters of Megiddo that God helped the Israelite army defeat the Canaanites. This is probably where the Ark of the Covenant was instrumental in the Israelites defeat of the Canaanites.
Today, the dawn of Armageddon actually started in 1914 when the First World War began. And, world leaders have only escalated global events to that ultimate point of no return. It is as though a juggernaut of one catastrophe after another is hurdling humanity closer toward that day of reckoning. Questions have to be asked by each and everyone of us. Is that day of reckoning, that point of no return, judgement day that day when Armageddon reaches it’s climax avoidable or will mankind come face to face with that destiny where we could have learned to live in peace and harmony with humanity and nature but didn’t? Sad to say the dawn of Armageddon that began 105 years ago where today the clock is half past noon time is not on our side to stop the clock from moving closer to midnight.
