During a Tzadik’s (holy righteous person) life, people come to him to be blessed and to ask him to pray on their behalf. The power of a righteous person is greater than a layman, whether if in his prayers or his blessing, his words are more welcome in Heaven. When the Tzadik passes away, the grave of the Tzadik becomes a place where people come to pray and ask for his advocacy in Heaven.

In Jewish tradition, prayers at graves of Tzadikim are a source of blessing from Above and a chance to communicate with God on a higher level. In fact it is known that a Tzadik has more power after he dies than he did while alive. This is because now his soul is free of the material body and can more easily approach the Throne of God.

Some of the Tzadikim have promised specific help to the people who will come to pray at their tombs. For example the tomb of Rabbi Yonatan Ben Uziel in Amuka, Israel, is known as a place where single men and women come to pray for their true soul mates. Many of them miraculously get married within a year from their visit to this grave of the Tzadik.

Many stories are told of prayers miraculously answered after praying at graves of Tzadikim; Barren women who are blessed with children, sick people who are wondrously cured and even people with financial difficulties which are unexpectedly solved. These different gravesites are visited by thousands of people, who come to beseech the Almighty to grant their various requests.

The fact, that someone comes to a grave of a Tzadik and recites prayers to God, stands in the merit of that Tzadik and elevates his soul higher up in Heaven. In return, the Tzadik tries his best to help that person in need by pleading on his behalf before God.

It is an encouraging thought, that even if we aren’t worthy enough for miraculous support from Above we can use this powerful tool of prayer at graves of Tzadikim in order to merit a holy ancient Tzadik’s advocacy up in Heaven.
