Molar Pregnancy – Symptoms and Treatment

What are the basic symptoms of molar pregnancy? The main symptom is bleeding and blood spots in the beginning of the pregnancy. That is why this condition is often considered as an abortion. If the mol is destructive or penetrating, removal of the uterus may be necessary. During the next six months the woman is put under surveillance and the hCG levels are monitored, because parts of the mol could continue growing and cause malignant formations with its development.

The good news is that around 90% of the women who had suffer the disease, do not need other treatment. They just need to avoid another pregnancy in the next year after they had that diagnosis. For the purpose they can use all kinds of contraceptives, with the exception of the spiral. According to the statistics, the percentage for appearing a second molar pregnancy is really small – about 1-2%. When a woman is diagnosed with molar pregnancy it is really important to have her relatives and family supporting her. Usually there isn’t an embryo, but when there it is, it doesn’t have the chance to develop. She needs time to recover emotionally and physically, because it is a little more complicated than the usual abortion.
