Many people look for mail order brides in order to get access to women that they can easily marry. Meanwhile, the brides themselves are often in it simply to get out of countries where they might be mistreated in or to at least move someplace where they might actually have a chance to advance in society. Therefore, there are clear concerns about whether or not relationships that come between people in this circumstance are legitimate.

However, the mail order bride divorce rate might not be as strong as people might think. It is actually better than what goes on with traditional marriages.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services bureau has been analyzing mail order bride marriages over the last few years and have found that there are close to five thousand of these marriages each year. This type of marriage is defined as one between an American male and a foreign woman.

However, it is estimated that about 80% of these marriages will last for several years. In other words, they have either lasted for at least five years or are still going on at this particular moment. Therefore, there is a relatively small divorce rate between mail order couples. Granted, this is out of a small sample size that involves a few thousand people but it is still something of note.

Therefore, the divorce rate for these couples is at 20%. This might sound like a high rate but it is nothing compared to the divorce rate for traditional marriages. The United States Census Bureau has found that one out of every two marriages in the country will end in divorce. Therefore, the divorce rate is at least 40% among all marriages in general.

Interestingly enough, this total has declined from the 50% that it was at in recent years. However, much of this might be because people are choosing not to get married to begin with, thus slightly skewing the numbers in the research process.

As it can be noticed in these statistics, there is clearly an advantage for people who are in mail order relationships than there is for people who are not. These people who get into mail order relationships might particularly benefit from the way how people who get into the United States for these relationships often do this with the purpose of trying hard to stick with certain people without worrying about being harmed in their home countries. The fact that the United States is safer than some European countries, especially in the east, certainly helps.

This is a particularly interesting point about the mail order bride divorce rate that is worth spotting. While there is a significant rate in terms of how mail order couples get divorced, it is not as strong as what might be found with traditional couples. The fact that so many traditional couples are splitting up is an interesting point that shows that people from other ends of the world who get married seem to have it better.
