Global Stratification – Inequality Between Nations
Our world population has increased significantly during the last 50 years. With the increase of the population the same happened with the problems which usually occur in our world. In this case I speak about the poverty. In my mind, it is one of the most serious problems in our world, since it is global. So undoubtedly we should know what “global stratification” stands for as it helps to understand full dimensions of global poverty.
Basically, global stratification is the pattern of global inequality in the world as a whole. The difference between nations and their income as well as wealth – those can be the main indicators of global stratification. For example, 20% of the richest population in the world earns 77% of the total income; however 20% of the poorest earn only 2%.
Even though latest researches state that overall people become richer, compared to the beginning of the 20th century, rich people increase their wealth and income faster than the poor ones, so the difference between poor and wealthy people grows.
When I speak about different things or happenings I like to compare them with my own experience or experience of my family. In this case we speak about the poverty in a world as a whole. But let’s be honest, our wealth mostly depends on ourselves. I believe that we are creators of our life.
For example my grandfather was a backwoodsman living in a small village in the central part of Soviet Union. However he was the only person from that village who managed to get the highest degree in engineering in St. Petersbourg. Later in the late 70s our family moved to Tallinn as my grandfather became a chief engineer. But when the Soviet Union collapsed our family lost almost everything. As my parents were only 19 years old when I was born, they didn’t manage to get higher education. The first part of the 90s wasn’t the best for our family. Business didn’t go so well, as it was quite dangerous, and unfortunately unstable. So sometimes we didn’t have the best food to eat. However my parents started to study. And now my father is one of the most famous Russian speaking lawyers in Estonia, and he is studying right know in doctorate at Tartu University. My mother is a financial director.
The moral is quite simple, if you want to achieve something, you should work hard.
