Wedding Customs – The wedding rituals include Kanyadan and Haatha Ghanti. Once after the groom came to the wedding Mandapa, the bride will be welcomed to the wedding Mandapa. Within a while after, the ritual called Kanyadan will be performed. In this ritual, the father of the bride will place bride’s right hand in the right hand of the groom’s. This ritual confirms that, the groom will take care of the bride in the future days. Then will begin the Haatha Ghanti ritual, in which the bride and groom will take 7 rounds of the holy fire just to let down the scare and evil things of a wedding. Then, the groom will put sindoor on birde’s forehead and Mangalsutra on bride’s neck.

Post Wedding Rituals – This includes the Grihapravesh and Astha Mangala ritual. In Grihapravesh, the bride will be welcomed to her marital home. Then, the bride and groom both will get the blessings of the elders. Then, on the 8th day after the wedding, the wedded couple will visit the bride’s house and this ritual is called Astha Mangala. There, they will be given warm and hearty welcome and will be served by auspicious and traditional food items. The food items include ten diverse varieties right from ghee to traditional Oriya rice.
